The Design Process

Research & Analysis

Research & Analysis

Before exploring solutions, I asked participants a simple question:

Would you place a preorder for a Sit Conmigo chair?

Only 3 out of 7 participants said yes

—uncovering an opportunity to design a more engaging and trustworthy preorder experience.

The most common reasons for hesitation included uncertainty about the build process, lack of updates, and a general discomfort with paying long before seeing progress.

User Personas

User Personas

To better understand Sit Conmigo's diverse audience I created two customer personas:

Taylor Greene, an eco-conscious Environmental Analyst

Ethan Rivera, a tech-savvy Digital Marketer.

These personas provided insights into customer values, behaviors, and preferences, shaping the development of a unique preorder incentive strategy.

To better understand Sit Conmigo’s diverse audience, I created two core personas:

Taylor Greene
Eco-conscious • Environmental Analyst

Ethan Rivera
Tech-savvy • Digital Marketer

These personas provided insights into customer values, behaviors, and preferences, shaping the development of a unique preorder incentive strategy.

Key takeaways from Taylor

Prefers email updates she can track to set expectations

Values accuracy and transparency

Motivated by ethical sourcing and purpose-driven practices

Key takeaways from Ethan

Prefers fast, mobile-first communication that fits his on-the-go lifestyle

Needs fast, mobile-first communication

Responds best to real-time updates and short, efficient messaging

Drawn to modern, tech-forward experiences

How These Personas Informed My Design

Building these personas helped me understand two distinct user mindsets. Taylor needed transparent, detailed updates she could track, while Ethan preferred fast, mobile-first communication that matched his fast-paced lifestyle.

By empathizing with their priorities and communication styles, I realized the solution had to be tech-forward, flexible, and grounded in trust. These insights shaped my competitive analysis, where I looked for examples of customer rewards that felt personal, interactive, and transparent.

Competitive Analysis

Competitive Analysis

A competitive analysis revealed that similar furniture companies use incentives like early bird access, exclusive discounts, and personalized content to drive purchases. Building on these findings and insights from the customer personas, I created a user survey to refine Sit Conmigo's preorder strategy and identify the most appealing incentives for their audience.

57% of participants preferred personalized content like a chair-building livestream, outweighing exclusive extras (29%) and early bird discounts (14%) as motivators.

Preference Testing

Preference Testing

57% of participants identified a livestream of the chair building process as the most compelling incentive, the next step was understanding how customers preferred to receive the livestream. I conducted a delivery method survey to ensure the livestream experience aligned with Sit Conmigo’s customer expectations.

This survey asks how users want to access the Sit Conmigo livestream—via Email, Text, Dashboard, or Order Page—followed by a checklist of what matters most, like ease, security, and convenience.
How Participants Preferred to Receive the Livestream

4 out of 7 participants preferred to receive the livestream via email.

Most participants preferred email as the method for receiving livestream notifications. They appreciated its secure, user-friendly nature — making it easy to access the livestream with confidence and convenience.

Designing The Solution

User Flow & Livestream Integration

I created a video walkthrough to visually illustrate the user flow, showing how users are guided to the livestream during the preorder process. This presentation helps clarify how notifications are integrated and enhances the overall experience.

Usability Testing

Usability Testing

To evaluate the preorder process and livestream notification system, I conducted usability testing where participants completed key tasks — including placing a preorder, joining the livestream, and accessing the recorded video.

Place a preorder
Join the livestream
Access the recorded video
Testers found the livestream easy to access, engaging, and clear. Some wanted fewer emails, plus more control over notifications and delivery options.

While feedback was largely positive, participants raised concerns about the lack of a way to skip the livestream. Some shared that they might prefer to simply preorder a chair without watching the build process. Adding this flexibility respects individual preferences and ensures a more user-friendly experience.

In response, a “Skip Livestream Notifications” option was added to the order form. The order confirmation page reinforces the user’s choice and offers a second opportunity to receive updates—giving users full control over how they stay connected.

Participants in the second round of user testing appreciated the option to skip livestream notifications and the redesigned confirmation page. These changes made the preorder process feel more flexible and user-friendly, addressing earlier usability concerns and improving the overall experience.

Outcome Summary

Outcome Summary

After implementing the livestream experience, the number of participants likely to preorder doubled — increasing to 6 out of 7.

Participants described the experience as personal, transparent, and trustworthy — a meaningful shift toward Sit Conmigo’s goal of increasing engagement and preorder confidence.

Accessibility Considerations

Accessibility Considerations

Accessibility was thoughtfully integrated throughout this project, with alignment to WCAG guidelines. For the case study, I focused on readable text, high color contrast, and meaningful ARIA labels and alt text. Microcopy and system messages were crafted with empathy and clarity to support emotional safety and reinforce user trust. My goal throughout this experience was to create an inclusive, engaging journey for both listeners and viewers.

What I Learned

What I Learned

This project reinforced the importance of listening to users and designing with empathy. While creating the livestream incentive was exciting, it was the addition of the skip notification option that truly highlighted the value of respecting user choice.

I initially explored multiple branching paths to cover every possible decision — but realized that good UX isn’t always about more options. Sometimes, simplicity is the most respectful choice.

By streamlining the experience and keeping the core interactions intentional, I built not only flexibility, but also clarity and trust.
Great design isn’t just about features — it’s about thoughtful restraint, connection, and confidence in what matters most.
